About This Trip
Most Char Dham pilgrims turn back after Kedarnath darshan. The Kedarnath-Vasukital trek, from ₹15,000 per person over 6 days, is built for those who want to go further — pairing the pilgrimage to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas with a genuine high-altitude trek to Vasuki Tal, a glacial lake at 4,135 m in the shadow of the Chaukhamba range.
The pilgrimage stage
The journey to Kedarnath follows the well-established route via Sonprayag and Gaurikund, a roughly 26 km trek along the Mandakini River on a maintained trail used by thousands of pilgrims each season. Reaching the temple at 3,583 m is itself a meaningful undertaking, and most travellers stop here. This package builds in an acclimatisation day at Kedarnath before continuing — an important safety measure, not filler.
Beyond the temple: Vasuki Tal
From Kedarnath, the trail to Vasuki Tal leaves the pilgrim crowds behind almost immediately. This stretch is a different proposition altogether: steep, less-maintained, and gaining real altitude to reach the lake at 4,135 m. The lake itself is worth the effort — glassy, ringed by moraine and framed by the Chaukhamba peaks, with Brahma Kamal blooming near its edges in season. It’s a place that gets a fraction of the footfall Kedarnath does, and it shows.
Difficulty, honestly
This is graded moderate to difficult, and the “difficult” half is doing real work in that rating. Good physical fitness and, ideally, prior trekking experience are recommended before attempting the Vasuki Tal extension — this is not the trek to take as your first high-altitude outing. Altitude sickness is a genuine risk above 4,000 m: take the built-in rest day seriously, hydrate consistently, and tell your trek leader immediately about any headache, nausea or dizziness rather than pushing on.
Best time to go
May-June and September-October are the two windows. Late spring brings clearer skies and blooming rhododendrons on the lower approach; the post-monsoon months trade that for cooler temperatures and noticeably thinner crowds on the Kedarnath trail itself.
What’s included
The package covers transport from Rishikesh, accommodation en route, and the necessary permits — full inclusions are confirmed at the time of booking.
Good to know
Weather at this altitude can change quickly regardless of season. Follow Uttarakhand Tourism Board guidelines and your trek leader’s calls on timing — safety takes priority over sticking to the printed itinerary.
